This has been asked before, actually several times. When I asked it, and CPU was coming regularly, he said that it was due to a number of responses "disappearing" because either 1) the author removed them or 2) the moderators hid (often referred to incorrectly as deleted) them. In any case, we have a reasonable level of confidence that our count is correct unless I have messed it up recently.
