Y'know.. a few weeks back I would've argued that even though the Nexus is terrible it would live on for a while longer because of how popular it is but..

Now, seeing how the slow descent into complete chaos has turned into a downward spiral into absolute madness.. I dunno.

I think Nexus might vanish by this coming summer. I wouldn't put money on it D0rky might take it because evil has a way of surviving but it's possible.

At this point, it's on life support. A good 75% of the servers don't even work; even the premium servers are suffering. Good old Robbie Scott can only keep it going for so long before the plug has to be pulled.

The problem? Too much growth. They got greedy, and tried to become the definitive mod site, for all games, and now they can't handle all the traffic. They're totally swamped.

That's what I think the issue is, anyway.

I'm fairly certain the site makes more than enough money to be self-sustained from just normal browsing.

D0rky is just too selfish or too stupid to put it to good use and maintain his site better.

What's with all the drama ?! I'm not having any problems at all...don't expect 1gb/s when you have a 2mb net connection. Sure the servers, sometimes, go down, but for no more than 5mins. They already invested a ton of money into the new servers, and altho they still seem to have some problems, it's definitely not as bad as before.

Just be happy that Nexus is still a free website, that's not being managed by some greedy pricks...

Yeah, okay.

The downloads are horrendously slow and files are often corrupted, most non-premium servers don't even work. Their ads carry spyware & malware. The site's security is now being compromised, and if you have an issue or question, don't expect to get a response unless you're premium; they only help their "paying customers".

That money's probably paid for more vacations for the admin than server upkeep.

I could overlook those issues if the site staff would actually treat people with a bit more decency and not ban them at the drop of a hat, but I don't see that happening.

WRONG.  I was a premium member for almost 7 years and in that time I saw a some-what reliable download system turned to utter shit.  Nexus did have (at one time) a service that at least worked.  The vast majority of people are now stuck with crawling download speeds.  That is a fact of Nexus life now.

Idk. I didn't have problems reaching the cap for free members on there servers (tried a couple of the salt lake servers). Speed dropped a couple of times, but I pretty sure it didn't last more than a few seconds before going back up. It mostly stayed between 800 and 1mb/s so it was ok. If speed suffers more during peak times, then Nexus isn't the only one with this problem.

I kind of got a jolt of realization after reading through the posts here. Are there any other sites that host original mods like Nexus do aside from the Workshop and LoversLab? It's gonna be a bad day if somehow Nexus went under and there's no alternative for new mods. Well, the mod authors personal blogs are something else but I don't think I know all of those out there. Most of the sites I have been to are just extension of both Nexus and Workshop (Dragonporn for example).

I still am a premium member, and I have absolutely no problem at all with downloads. I can easily reach between 5-8mb/s.

I've actually been on the hunt for some unique original mods, and I would like to know this as well. Most other sites do just host LL, Nexus and Steam Workshop mirrors, which is pretty disappointing.

There's Naver, I guess, but you have to be a member, which is difficult for people who don't know Korean. They don't really like westerners though.

I only manually download from Nexus, but I get decent DL speeds when the servers aren't down. I did download something yesterday that didn't even start, but I stopped it and picked another server then it went just fine.

Of course, this doesn't matter if the site's down, which is pretty common. Not as common as it was recently, though.

I still think the biggest problem with Nexus is the lack of "community". You don't get treated well there, you'll get banned for stuff that should only warrant a warning, it's hard to get assistance, and it's just not very friendly there in the forums (but that may be because of the fear of the banhammer). And forget chat. Say you don't like something, anything at all, and you'll get some butthurt kid causing you grief.

LoversLab, on the other hand, is a place where people coverse about nearly anything, it's full of mature adults, and the sense of community is strong. Ask a tech question here and you'll have help, probably the right answer, in no time at all.

There was a thread in Skyrim General Discussion that had a pretty good list of mod sites and blogs in it. If you look for it you should be able to find it easily enough.

It depends on where you look there are many people that post on their blogs there is http://modtype.doorblog.jp/archives/15455205.html there is http://bbs.3dmgame.com/forum.php you will need a translator and have a account but you can find things on there that are not on the nexus and many others it just takes searching everywhere for them.

I use modtype in conjunction with Dragonporn. Also, I don't need a translator for 3dm. I'm Chinese after all and are already too much acquainted with the Mandarin language than I would like. The problem with 3dm (and it still is from going there just a couple of days ago) is just how jumbled up their links on pages... Just hope that the ISP on my end will cut me some slack when visiting 3dm cause it takes a hell of a long time to load.

I got exclusive access to visit where the nexus servers for U.S. West is located.

And Man, was I ... impressed by what I saw there.

I can truthfully confirm that nexus servers are not run on Potatoes, but instead based off of the latest and greatest in London based software and hardware technology solutions.

This marvelous server system which brings endless joy to us all is also a simple enough solution

raspberry%20pi%20supercomputer%206.jpg

It's colour coded and neatly organized!

Ladies and gents, if you own a website, make sure you switch your hoster to a certified Nexus Lego Pi (NLP) server cluster.

It's the future of terrible downtimes, slow speeds and truly unmanageable software.

But it works for nexus, so why wouldn't it work for you!

It's too bad there's no "love" button and all I can give this is a "like" xD

That's amazing.

Okay, now, we know that a hamster wheel powers the Lego server cluster. This we obviously understand.

The potato must serve as some sort of back up power supply.

GLaDOS would be ashamed.

A lot of you keep losing your shit over the servers on Nexus, but a little bit of patience has helped me get anything I needed off of Nexus.  And frankly, while everyone says LL is sooo much better than the community, well, LL's servers don't seem to be doing much better the past couple of days.

Sure the site's been slow for a few days but that's not comparable to the Nexus going bad and staying bad for weeks to months at a time.

The fact that most of its servers are mostly, or, completely unreliable says something about them whereas here all we get is a day or three of slowness then it's all good again.

All that's left now is for it to start with the "File does not exist" errors again, I'll genuinely giggle if that starts anew.
